Kids at the Beach - 5 Games to Play

Keeping kids at the beach entertained doesn't need to be a struggle. In Turks and Caicos it's pretty easy to keep children entertained. They can go snorkeling, take a banana boat ride and a bunch of other fun stuff too.

Kids at the Beach

You can also use these 5 fun beach games to keep them busy and happy so that you can enjoy the beach just as much as they do.

1. Bucket Relay Race

All you need for this race is 2 tiny buckets of equal height and width.

How to play:

Split the kids (and adults if they want to play) into two teams then have each team stand in line at the shore's edge.

Place the buckets in the sand, make sure they're set steady and about 5 feet away from the water. Depending on the age of the kids, you could make this distance shorter or longer.

Each team needs to scoop up some water in their hands and race to pour it into the bucket...if you really want to run the kids ragged, make them use spoons ;o) After the first team member has dropped their water into the bucket the next player gets to go. To win the race the bucket needs to be filled to the top.

2. Ping Pong Ball Race

You need some shovels and some ping pong balls.

How to play:

Get the kids to dig an equal number of channels starting about 10 feet away from the water's edge. Make sure that there is an incline. If you have a mix of younger and older children, make the older kids channel a couple of feet longer.

Once that's done, have the kids place their ball at the top of the channel and then blow on the ball to move it toward the finish line...whoever gets there first wins!

3. Memory Game

You'll need some rocks or shells and a fairly big beach towel.

How to play:

Ask two kids at the beach to sit back to back on the sand and draw a grid with 5 rows and 4 columns. One child then sets out the rocks or shells on their grid by placing only one rock or shell on a square and skipping however many squares they want to. Once they've created their pattern, cover it with the beach towel.

Now you'll take the towel off the grid and allow the other child to look at it for 10 seconds. Place the towel back over the grid again and then have the second child try to duplicate the first child's pattern on their own grid. When they're done, remove the towel to see how close they recreated the pattern.

4. Dodge Ball

You'll need 5 beach balls if there are 4 kids, 4 beach balls if there are three kids and so on.

How to play:

This is a great game for kids to play as they can run and jump around until they wear themselves out. The rules are simple, if a player in the middle is hit by a ball they are out and if a player in the middle catches the ball then the thrower is out.

5. Queen of the Castle

You'll need buckets, shovels and bottles filled with water.

How to play:

Create two sand lines that are parallel to each other, then put the shovels, buckets and bottles on one line and the kids on the other one.

Each kid has to run, collect one of the items, then take that item back to the starting line and race back to get the remaining items. Once all the items have been collected the first one that makes a sand castle that doesn't fall down once the bucket is lifted off wins!

These fun games will definitely keep your kids at the beach entertained beyond all the other great activities available in Turks and Caicos.
