Grand Turk Island - Luxury Cruise Ship Centre

Grand Turk Island is home to a state of the art luxury cruise ship centre. It is also the second most populated island with 3.700 inhabitants, Providenciales being the first most populated, in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Cockburn Town in Grand Turk has been the seat of government since 1766. Only 7 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, this beautiful Island is what the Caribbean was like 25 years ago.

This is a view of the southwestern beach where the cruise ship dock is on Grand Turk Island. When the ships come in it can get crowded but there are many other beaches which are almost completely private and serene.

At the international museum you’ll be able to learn of the Molasses Reef Wreck dated around 1505 which is the oldest European shipwreck discovered in the Western world. You’ll also be able to learn about the rich cultural and natural diversity of the islands.

It’s interesting to note that in 1962 the astronaut John Glenn, who was the first American to orbit the earth, splashed down in his capsule in Grand Turk waters and was brought to the island for the obligatory medical check-up.

During the summer months Grand Turk Island is host to the Heineken Game Fishing Tournament. Throughout the year there are fun filled events for locals and visitors alike featuring dancing to island music, sporting challenges and much more.

There’s a 150 year old lighthouse located on the northeast point of the island, and there’s a national museum in which can be seen the history of the Turks and Caicos islands, from the Indian occupation up to modern times.

One of the main attractions is of course the Turks and Caicos diving which caters for the novice as well as Caribbean snorkelers and experienced divers. This Island is rated among the top 5 diving destinations in the World.

You might even get lucky enough to have a pod of dolphins invite you to snorkel with them!

The protected coral reef, which drops to 8,000 feet, is close enough to shore for beach dives, and during the whale watching season, the hump back whales can be seen passing the Grand Turk shores and swimming with them is a dream come true for divers and snorkelers alike.

The famous Governor's beach is located in the Columbus Landfall National Park and is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, catching some rays or just laying about and living the life of a beach bum!
