Flights to Turks and Caicos

Flights to Turks and Caicos are becoming more frequent and cheaper because of the three international airports the Islands now boast.

The Providenciales and Grand Turk airports are full service, but the South Caicos International Airport is limited entry.

The other islands have air strips that only serve domestic flights. Most international flights to Turks and Caicos land at the Providenciales airport which is the largest.

Taxi services are available at most of the airports but the fleets are small and sometimes passengers might need to share vehicles when travelling in the same direction. Depending on your departure city, there are several options you can consider for flights to Turks and Caicos.

Leaving from Europe

British Airways is the only carrier out of Europe to Turks and Caicos.

Other European carriers will take you to the United States or other Caribbean destinations from where you connect to a different airline for the trip to the Islands.

British Airways flies direct from London once a week, leaving on a Sunday, and avoiding transit in the U.S. cities. This flight takes approximately 12 hours and travelers wanting this option are advised to book well in advance.

Leaving from the USA

From the USA, the following airlines fly direct into Turks and Caicos:

• American Airlines from New York and Miami.
• Delta Airlines from Atlanta
• US Airways from Charlotte
• Spirit Air from Fort Lauderdale

Leaving from Canada

From Canada you can book flights on WestJet, American Airlines, Delta, as well as Air Canada.

Westjet has a stopover in Toronto, American Airlines in Charlotte, Delta in Atlanta and you can book a direct flight between January and March on Air Canada which is great!

If you're really lucky you might stumble onto a deal with CanJet for 29.99 or 129.99 like I did in June. The flight was direct and cost me a total of 294.00.

From the Caribbean

To and from other Caribbean locations the options are rather limited. Quite often travelers might need to fly into Florida before catching a connecting flight to another West Indies island. Bahamas Air flies from Nassau, Bahamas to the islands.

From Turks and Caicos

Air Turks and Caicos, which is based on the islands, offers domestic as well as regional international and charter flights, primarily the Caribbean.

The airline is looking to expand its network with the acquisition of more planes and by opening up routes to the United States. Currently they have flights to Turks and Caicos from the following destinations:

• Nassau, Bahamas - Lynden Pindling International Airport
• Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic – Gregorio Luperon International Airport
• Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic – Cibao International Airport
• Port-au-Prince, Haiti – Toussaint Louverture International Airport
• Kingston, Jamaica – Norman Manley International Airport
• Montego Bay, Jamaica – Sangster International Airport

Air Turks and Caicos also operate domestic flights between Grand Turk Island, Providenciales, North Caicos, South Caicos and Salt Cay.

Domestic flights usually take no more than half an hour. The airline operates a regular taxi service to all the inhabited islands, transporting travelers to the nearest or preferred airport location.

Flight booking

Flights to Turks and Caicos can be arranged directly with the airline, through a travel agent or by online booking.

Tripadvisor.com, Lastminute.com, Travelhouse.com and Skyscanner.com and redtag.ca are good sites to search for flight availability and prices to the islands.

Like with many Caribbean destinations, flights to Turks and Caicos are harder to purchase during the peak seasons of Christmas/New Year. If you’re planning a trip during this time of the year, ensure you book your flights several months in advance to avoid disappointment.
