Ambergris Cay - Private Residential Island

Ambergris Cay was originally home to the Taino Indians until the British colonized it in the 17th century. The island attracted pirates who needed a place to hide and stash their booty.

After the Revolutionary War, fleeing British Loyalists found themselves on this island Since then many different countries have controlled it. It has been under the control of Bermudan, Bahamian and Jamaican governments. In 1962 the island became a British Overseas Protectorate.

As a consequence of this rich heritage, it has benefited from a mix of cultures and traditions making this island unique within the Turks and Caicos Islands.

For ecologists, this beautiful Cay is a playground with many fascinating examples of plant, bird, insect and reptile life such as the Caicos Island orchid, the Yellow-Billed Cuckoo, Bahama Hummingbird, the orb-weaving Silver Argiope, and the Turk and Caicos Rock Iguana.

More than 60% of the island is set aside to ensure that the it's natural beauty and wildlife remain protected.

In 1995 Canadian businessman Henry Mensen, during one of his frequent explorations of the Turks and Caicos Islands, discovered Ambergris Cay and was immediately in awe of its natural beauty. He purchased the island and brought electricity there, using the natural power of the sun and the wind.

Three years later, after teaming up with Peter Pollak and Steve Schram, the Turks and Caicos Sporting Club was born.

This island, just over a thousand acres, less than six hundred miles from Florida and only eighteen minutes by private jet from Providenciales, is now home to the Turks and Caicos Sporting Club. It could be home to you.

Ambergris Cay Airport was recently certified to receive International flights! You'll be able to fly there direct from many locations instead of having to land in Provo and then take a private flight to get to the Cays.
